Housing & Sanitation

Housing & Sanitation :

While working with women groups, the top management of Sampark came to know some of the rural poor households borrowed money at a higher rate of interest to construct low cost houses and to complete unfinished houses since MFIs are not giving housing loan. As a pilot, in technical partnership with Habitat for Humanity India and financial support of Kalyan Jewellers Housing Project, Sampark started providing housing loan and technical assistance for construction to graduated SHG clients. The technical staff reduced the construction cost by 10-20% which resulted to disburse loan to 184 clients. 25 clients have been given loan for construction of new houses and rest 159 clients for the construction of unfinished houses.

Out of the 184 clients, 101 clients are from 16 villages of Muniguda and Bissumcuttack blocks of Rayagada District and 6 villages of Lanjigarh block of Kalahandi District. The rest 83 clients are from 29 villages of Narla, M. Rampur and Karlamunda blocks of Kalahandi District . Till now the repayment is 100%, which inspired us to reach more and more people with housing/house repairing loan and technical assistance.

Key Achievements:

100 % loan disbursement as per the plan

184 clients of Muniguda in Rayagada District and Lanjigarh in Kalahandi District constructed their dream houses

50% beneficiaries are govt. subsidy house beneficiaries like IAY, PMAY and BPGY

Ensured 100 % toilet facilities along with new constructions

BEST PRACTICES:

The Lending process of housing loan was well designed and well managed. Especially the technical assessment starting from measurement to estimation and costing was a good practice. In this process, we could know the actual requirement of the client and sanctioned loan as per estimation along with toilet facilities.

Regular monitoring /door step technical assistance by the Technical officer, training and orientation to masons regarding quality control, proper use of materials, safety and security measures during construction etc. are some of the best practices of this project and it reduces the cost of construction.
